Don’t Play on My End of the Sandbox

Recently, I commented on a popular website I enjoy reading.  My comment was in regards to the Illinois Shooter who had taken Prozac.  They say he had stopped taking his medicine.  A whole debate has now ensued over Prozac being a bad drug.   During one of my most devastating depressions, when other antidepressants had failed, my doctor prescribed Prozac.  I believe it saved my life.  I really think if I would have continued in the depression, I would have taken my life.  My website was not created to be a political one and I promise I lack knowledge when it comes to drugs.  I was just deeply troubled that my comments led to posts that were in my opinion only, irresponsible.  I never claimed that Prozac was the wonder drug or that everyone should take it.  I only described what it did for me.

I also speak from another experience.  My mom was a deeply depressed person.  She finally sought help and was prescribed Prozac.  Due to the bad press at the time, she was to frightened to take it.  She crumbled up the prescription and threw it away.  I will always wonder if mama would still be with me had she taken the medication.  I will never get the answer to that question.  And that is just it, we don’t have all the answers to every problem.  Everyone’s path to wellness is different.   I have chosen to trust in doctors.  I try to be accepting of all opinions when they are written responsibly.  I also choose to accept others regardless of their feelings.  I do, however, have the right to not allow them in my end of the sandbox.
