By Lizzie

I am a professional just completing my graduate studies.  My nickname is Lizzie.

A favorite story of mine is Gulliver’s Travels.  Reading this story abdicates those from their daily actions to stories of lands far away.  To me, it is quite humorous.  Unlike Gulliver, my journey with bipolar is not as adventurous and I write this not as a parody, but as a chronicle into a powerful illness.  As Swift so handsomely fashioned his satire of Gulliver, may I somehow use my own wit to help others find voice and trust in themselves.

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

by Portia Nelson
I. I walk down the street. There’s a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost…..I am helpless; it isn’t my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.

II. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I am in the same place; but it isn’t my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.

III. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in….it’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am.It is my fault. I get out immediately.

IV. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

V. I walk down a different street.

    Lizzie,

I’m kind of manic right now :-) so I’ve been following link after link after link until I stumbled on your blog. What a gem. You write from the heart and do it with so much humor. I had to immediately add a link to you from my blog. I try to educate on mood disorders while being light and adding humor, but I think you’ve got me beat.

Take a look at my website and give me any feedback. I’d be interested in what you’d have to say.

    Lizzie,

This is got to be one of the best, well written, honest and entertaining blogs I’ve read. The fact that I can relate to your experiences on the Bipolar train is merely a bonus.

Thanks for making me feel like I’m not alone right now.

    Cheers
    Cass

    Lizzie:

I just came across your site, and was reading with interest the article about surgery and bipolar. I have suffered with bipolar for the majority of my 51 years and would seriously consider a surgery at some times. I have had several other surgeries, and no problems with drug interactions, etc.

I hope a treatment is developed which is less invasive, but the possiblity makes me wish for the option when deeply depressed and suicidal.
